The Quartzite Project had a twofold purpose. Aesthetically, the rock installation was to give the appearance of quartzite ledge exposed on the hillside visually making the location more interesting and effectively tying it to the areas above and below. The design also figured into the engineering of the hillside to give support to a number of trees planted just above, one pine, the largest, weighing in at around 600 tons. The hillside is also part of a dam holding back the waters of a 13 acre pond.

The rocks were quite beautiful with large clusters of garnet throughout. I hope to visit again in the near future to get some photos of the areas planted out.
